  • A Lawyer in Long Beach pt 4 : Clash of the Titans
Saturday at the Mundials was the real beginning of the “Clash of the [BJJ] titans.” The junior blue-belts divisions, the purple-belt male and female open divisions, as well as the brown belts and the lighter-weight black belts (my favorite divisions of course) were on the docket. The bullpen, the stands, and the surrounding areas were flooded with BJJ royalt […]
  • A Lawyer in Long Beach pt 3 : Once the Dust Settled
Later in the day we came up with a plan whereby each fighter from Crazy 88 preparing for a fight would be assigned an assistant who had fought the day before, to make sure they had everything they needed. It was an honor to be able to assist, in what little way I could, in a teammates’ preparations. SEVEN (7) Lloyd Irvin competitors became World Champions on […]

  • STRIKEFORCE: Heavy Artillery Review
-Jon Delbrugge- In today’s mainstream MMA we have an oversaturation of the blood splattering, lightning bolt, tribal tattoo designed logo appeal to it. After a day in New York, I am exhausted from the ride!  The tournament was great and Team Lloyd Irvin had a great turnout!

Today I spent the day relaxing with Master Lloyd, Mike Fowler, Wilson Reis, and a few of the other guys from the gym!  Wilson recently fought in Bellator, and he will be fighting again in about 2 weeks!  Back to training tomorrow morning here in Camp Springs.  Getting ready for Brasileiros!!  Bjj Blue Belt Willie Leonard and I will be competing this weekend in Rio!  More than excited, we are going for nothing but GOLD!!

Here are the some of the results from the 2010 New York Open:
BJJ Black belts, Mike Fowler 2nd, JT Torres 1st

Brown Belt Jim Harbison takes 2nd in his division, and 3rd in the absolute.

Blue Belts: Frank Camacho closes out his the division with teammate Evan Gideon from Crazy 88 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.  Dj Jackson takes double gold, 1 in his class, and in the absolute.  Kim Rivers from Third Law BJJ took 1st in her division and teammate Cathy from Crazy 88 took 3rd in that same division.  Jeremy West and Kevin Dalton both took 2nd in their weight classes.  Rachel Demara and I both took first in our weight classes, and closed out the absolute division together.  In my division, leve(light) teammate Domynika and I closed it out together as well.

White Belts Aneene, Jake and Al took 1st in their weight classes as well.

Everyone did a great job, and I am very proud of the team.  It’s great to see everyone out at the tournaments supporting each other.  If I have missed any results, please let me know!!! I tried to remember them all!!!

Team Lloyd Irvin Blue Belts closed out the Male and Female absolute divisions here in Irvine California.  Yesterday was a long day for all of the Team Lloyd Irvin members.  Up on the mats today we will have BJJ brown belts Nyjah Easton and Jim Harbison.  The Black Belts go tomorrow then it’s back to training and Monday.  Team Lloyd Irvin Kids are also competing up in New Jersey this weekend, so keep them in your prayers and I know they will be bringing home some gold medals!!  And tonight….the fights are on, we have Phil Davis(4x All American NCAA Champion) fighting in Abu Dhabi, Bj Penn, The Prodigy is going to destroy as well as Renzo Gracie.  It’s going to be a great night of fights!!

Lloyd Irvin blue belts DJ Jackson and Willie Leonard met in the final round of the absolute, which is nothing new.  Willie, ultraheavy weight applied full pressure and was beating DJ by a whopping 26-0!!!!  Dj ended up tapping to what he said was a neck crank.  Willie Leonard, getting DQ’d was not happy, but in the end, the 2 teammates made up and Willie got the gold.  DJ Jackson got silver in absolute and bronze in his division.  Sijara Eubanks had a tough day as well, she won her first 2 matches.  In her third match, she lost by points, that would have been her medal round.

For the women’s blue belt absolute, Sijara was on page 4, and I was on page 1.  I was confident that we would meet in the finals and close out the division.  My first match was against Mackenzie Dern, I won by armlock submission from the triangle.  Moving on to my 2nd match, I won on points moving into the finals.

Sijara made it to the semi’s and fought a girl from ATT, and got caught in a clock choke.  I was set to fight that girl next…for the finals, what seemed like one of the longest matches ever, I submitted my opponent with about 30 secs. left.  I had her mounted with a triangle and got the armlock!! Overwhelmed with joy, I ran to my teammates who had been very supported all day long.  Double Gold in the 2010 Pan American Championships.  This was my first Pan Am(gi) competition that I had competed in, and I was more than pleased.  Team Lloyd Irvin trained hard, and I wouldn’t have got on that 1st place stand without all of my training partners.  Thanks to everyone who made this possible….

But the weekend is not over……more results to come!!!!

Cleaned House at Grapplers Quest in Caldwell, Team Lloyd Irvin did great!

Jim Harbison, one of Team Lloyd Irvin’s Newest Members placed first.  Having 2 matches, he submitted both of his opponents by armbar.  Jim Harbison will be competing in Pan Ams on the weekend of April 8-11th and he is looking forward to Mundials as well.

Dj Jackson, Lloyd Irvin Blue Belt had a stacked division.  He had 4 matches total, and won each one getting gold taking first place in the gi.  Another bjj blue belt, Frank “The Crank” Camacho, all around phenomenal Mixed Martial Artist, took 1st in his division as well.  He won his first 2 matches by kimura, and his 3rd match by bow n arrow back choke.  In his final match, he won 7-0.  He fought a tough wrestler, going neck and neck, Frank won the division.

The Kids swept the tournament clean, as usual!! Congrats to them and the affiliate schools who also came out to compete.  Everyone had great matches, helping them prepare for upcoming tournaments.

Master Lloyd is out in Colorado right now with Brandon “The Truth” Vera preparing for battle tonight.  If you look at my previous posts, you can watch the weigh ins.  Brandon has come a long way,  and not looking past Jon Jones, but he has asked for the #3 spot, whoever it is, friend or not.  Brandon, and wife Kerry Vera are talented Mixed Martial Artist and they have a great future ahead.  Make sure and catch the fight on Versus tonight!
