  • A Lawyer in Long Beach pt 4 : Clash of the Titans
Saturday at the Mundials was the real beginning of the “Clash of the [BJJ] titans.” The junior blue-belts divisions, the purple-belt male and female open divisions, as well as the brown belts and the lighter-weight black belts (my favorite divisions of course) were on the docket. The bullpen, the stands, and the surrounding areas were flooded with BJJ royalt […]
  • A Lawyer in Long Beach pt 3 : Once the Dust Settled
Later in the day we came up with a plan whereby each fighter from Crazy 88 preparing for a fight would be assigned an assistant who had fought the day before, to make sure they had everything they needed. It was an honor to be able to assist, in what little way I could, in a teammates’ preparations. SEVEN (7) Lloyd Irvin competitors became World Champions on […]

-Jon Delbrugge- In today’s mainstream MMA we have an oversaturation of the blood splattering, lightning bolt, tribal tattoo designed logo appeal to it. Cleaned House at Grapplers Quest in Caldwell, Team Lloyd Irvin did great!

Jim Harbison, one of Team Lloyd Irvin’s Newest Members placed first.  Having 2 matches, he submitted both of his opponents by armbar.  Jim Harbison will be competing in Pan Ams on the weekend of April 8-11th and he is looking forward to Mundials as well.

Dj Jackson, Lloyd Irvin Blue Belt had a stacked division.  He had 4 matches total, and won each one getting gold taking first place in the gi.  Another bjj blue belt, Frank “The Crank” Camacho, all around phenomenal Mixed Martial Artist, took 1st in his division as well.  He won his first 2 matches by kimura, and his 3rd match by bow n arrow back choke.  In his final match, he won 7-0.  He fought a tough wrestler, going neck and neck, Frank won the division.

The Kids swept the tournament clean, as usual!! Congrats to them and the affiliate schools who also came out to compete.  Everyone had great matches, helping them prepare for upcoming tournaments.

Headed up to Caldwell, New Jersey this weekend is a large group of members from Team Lloyd Irvin.  First off we have Master Donnie, one of our Brazilan Jiu-Jitsu Black Belts and the Head Instructor of the Kids Team who will be spending the weekend up there.  That team consists of 16 yr. old Blue Belt, Cedric Bryant, Derrick Holmes, Jamil Tyler, Aarae Alexander(Double Gold World Champion Medalist) and many more kids.  They will be competing in tomorrow’s Grapplers Quest, Beast of the East.

As for the adults, just to name a few JT Torres, Jim Harbison, Frank Camacho, DJ Jackson and a bunch of other guys are getting ready for battle as well.  This is going to be a great tournament for the guys.  They have been training really hard during the BJJ Training Camp here in Camp Springs Maryland.  Preparing themselves for The Pan Ams, Brasileiros, and Mundials it’s a great tournament to work their technique and competition game plan.  Jimmy recently took 3rd in the European Championships out in Portugal.  DJ Jackson, Lloyd Irvin Blue Belt, is a No GI World Champion, No Gi Pan Am Champion, Multiple NAGA, Grapplers Quest Champion, New York Open Champion, and Abu Dhabi Submission Championships Qualifier.  Keep an eye out for them this year!

Saturday, Day 6 of the Pan Ams Jiu-Jitsu Training Camp and it was a 3 hour practice.  Warming up with take downs, and drills, then 7 minute rounds for 1 hour is how we ended the week.  Brown Belt Cory Robinson and a friend, Jordan came to train as well!  It was a good size class for a Saturday.  It was a great practice, also more of a relaxing practice and Monday is back to strength and conditioning and hard core training.  So rest up, soak your bodies in a nice hot bath, take your vitamins and everything else that is needed!

Master Lloyd took off to Ohio to support Dominick Cruz who is fighting for the bantamweight title vs Brian Bowles in Columbus, Ohio just after jiu-jitsu training. They are showing the WEC event live on Versus starting at 10 pm.  We will also be showing the fights at Lloyd Irvin Mixed Martial Arts, so stop by if you wanna watch the fights with the team.

I also want to say Congrats to the guys from Crazy 88 who flew out to Texas for the Houston Open this weekend.  BJJ blue belt Evan Gideon placed 1st in the middle heavy weight division, Tye Ryan Murphy placed 2nd in the middle weight class, and Al Washington bjj white belt placed 2nd as well.  Another Congrats to the guys from Third Law BJJ down in Florida.  When I was down in Florida competing for the Abu Dhabi Pro Trials, the Third Law guys were very supportive.  Congrats again!  All these tournaments are really helping everyone prepare for Worlds and I can’t wait.  Up next will be Grapplers Quest in New Jersey, March 20.  Brandon “The Truth” Vera also fights on March 21th. vs Jon Jones, so catch it on SPIKE!

Woke up this morning had a good breakfast and off to Lloyd Irvin’s Mixed Martial Arts I went.  Advanced brazilian jiu-jitsu class started @ 11:30.  BJJ Blue belt Sijara Eubanks and I drilled and then Master Lloyd had us doing live rounds. Physically and Mentally preparing us for real situations.  Sijara and I will both be doing Pan Ams, and Worlds, and definitely getting on that first place stand.

Second bjj training consisted of more drilling, and I also did a few reps on the resistance bands.  I drilled with Dj Jackson, he is also a blue belt, and he recently fought in the Gameness Fighting Championships making his opponent tap due to punches from the mount.  Mike Fowler, JT Torres, Jim Harbison, and Frank Camacho drilled for several rounds as well.  Drilling is a must, so make sure that you find time in your day to drill, DRILL,DRILL!!

Last but not least, we had the 8:30 Advanced BJJ class.  Live grip fighting, live sparring, LIVE LIVE LIVE!  Getting ready for the upcoming tournaments.  We had a full class, and everyone was training hard, Team Lloyd Irvin!

A while back, I was involved in a push up challenge.  I had to record whatever the current news was to verify the date, and record my 40 push ups for 30 days straight.  Because I stuck with it and never gave up, I won a trip to Miami, and I get to bring along 1 guest.  Although, with the up coming tournaments, I will have to hold off on that trip for now!  But I really look forward to doing it in the summer!!!  Until tomorrow, I need to get some rest and get ready for Day 2!!
