  • A Lawyer in Long Beach pt 4 : Clash of the Titans
Saturday at the Mundials was the real beginning of the “Clash of the [BJJ] titans.” The junior blue-belts divisions, the purple-belt male and female open divisions, as well as the brown belts and the lighter-weight black belts (my favorite divisions of course) were on the docket. The bullpen, the stands, and the surrounding areas were flooded with BJJ royalt […]
  • A Lawyer in Long Beach pt 3 : Once the Dust Settled
Later in the day we came up with a plan whereby each fighter from Crazy 88 preparing for a fight would be assigned an assistant who had fought the day before, to make sure they had everything they needed. It was an honor to be able to assist, in what little way I could, in a teammates’ preparations. SEVEN (7) Lloyd Irvin competitors became World Champions on […]

  • STRIKEFORCE: Heavy Artillery Review
-Jon Delbrugge- In today’s mainstream MMA we have an oversaturation of the blood splattering, lightning bolt, tribal tattoo designed logo appeal to it. Brackets are up and the guys are on their way to Lisbon for The European Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships!!  The brackets are stacked with good people and I can’t wait to see the results.  They are out there representing Team Lloyd Irvin and doing what they do best!

I am starting to get really nervous for this weekend, but I am going to do my best!  As long as I stick to my game plan, everything will be ok.

Just a few weeks ago, Master Lloyd brought Master Rhadi Ferguson out here to Camp Springs and I did an interview with him.  It was a pleasure to meet him, and it was an honor to be in the presence of such an accomplished athlete.  Check out the video below.  If you don’t know who Master Rhadi is, he is a World Class Strength Coach, 2004 Olympian, 4-Time National Judo Champion, and a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt.  And as intimidating as he is, never skip the opportunity to ask him a question.

So, they say it takes 21 days of repetition for one thing to become a habit, and I have hit my 21st day of 40 push ups.  Last night was a close call for me,, I was uploading my video and for someone reason it wasn’t playing!  I was feeling horrible and like a failure, luckily the video was uploaded successfully.  I am almost at the end of the challenge and I haven’t figured out what I am going to do next.  If you have any suggestions, just let me know.

I am about to take the Brazilian JiuJitsu class here in Camp Springs and I am looking forward to it.  Competition is a few days away and I am more than excited.  In the morning class, we worked on guard passing and I got a good sweat in.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are some of the busiest days here at Lloyd Irvin’s Mixed Martial Arts.  Between the after school and classes, there are people coming and going constantly, which is a good thing.  Our kids program is awesome!  On Tues./Thurs., we have the 6-6:30 class for the 3-4 yr. old, and there are so many little kids in that class.  Which can only mean more potential stars.  If you or your child is interested in Mixed Martial Arts, come over here to Camp Springs Maryland and check out our facility.  For more information about our program, you can check out www.lloydirvin.com

Mike Fowler leaves for Lisbon tomorrow with some of the other guys.  If you don’ t know who Mike Fowler is, he is a BJJ black belt under Master Lloyd and has recently located back here to Maryland after being gone for 2 years.

When Mike Fowler first started competing he had asked Master Lloyd how he got into Gracie Mag.  Master Lloyd explained that you basically need to be unique, stand out!  That’s exactly what Mike Fowler wanted as far as his BJJ career.  He started experimenting with hair dye, after much practice, he found something that stuck, leopard spots.  Now, he colors his hair for most of the Brazilian JiuJitsu Tournaments.  So, tonight after the evening practice, I will dye his hair and I will post pictures later!

Stay tuned to hear how the guys do in Europeans, and I will keep you posted with updates for The Abu Dhabi Trials.  Keep up the good training!

Back on that Monday training…nothing like resting up the body over the weekend, then back to hard training.  This morning I did my 40 Push Ups before the morning BJJ class.  Master Lloyd decided to switch it up to gi being that a bunch of our guys are competing this weekend. Every one warmed up and we got to sparring right away, getting in as much rounds as possible.  After that we switched it up and worked on our guard passing.

Tonight we had a lot of people in class, and I hope it continues to stay that way.  Everyone was on their “A” Game and looking sharp.  In our advanced class, it is made clear that when we have people competing, or upcoming tournaments, those specific people have live rounds more often then others.  NO hard feelings, and the students always understand, every one always has a positive attitude and I hope they stay like that.  Even if you are not a competitor, you are still needed on the mat, you can still help out your teammates.  It’s the same for the MMA guys, if you are the one with a fight coming up, you are more likely to get most of the sparring rounds.  Training hard and pushing yourself on the mat until you feel like dying can be grueling, but in the end, your hard work will pay off. Check out this video of the MMA guys training today, they have been training hard for their upcoming fight on February 26.

This year Team Lloyd Irvin is doing big things, and if you want to be a part of our team, come and check us out in Camp Springs Maryland.  You can also try out our 30 Day FREE Trial, we have MMA, BJJ, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Women’s ONLY classes, and much more.  To find out more information go to www.30freedays.com

Everything is finalized!  Willie and I leave out on Saturday to Florida aka the “Sunshine State”.  My division starts around 1 pm, just thinking about it makes me really nervous.  For those of you who may not know, I took part in Marcos Avellan’s Push Up Challenge, and today marks Day 18.  I have about two weeks left and I am doing good so far.  I have to do 40 push ups a day, and record what is on CNN just to prove that I am doing my push ups daily.

I put together a quick video of the guys during one of the practices.  Man, they have really been training hard and in the end, I know they will have awesome results.  Master Lloyd is such a great coach and will help you achieve anything you want.  The rest is up to you…pushing yourself to the limit and beyond!  Not only do the guys have training, but they are also doing their strength and conditioning, waking up early to start the day off with 6 am practices!  The guys here at Team Lloyd Irvin want it…they want to be the best in Mixed Martial Arts, and they will be. Your school can be open 24/7, you can have the best training equipment in the world, but what would it be without the greatest instructor.  Then again, you may not be trying to make Champions, here at Team Lloyd Irvin….we sure are.

If you are ever in Camp Springs, Maryland, come and get your 30 days FREE at our facility.  Yes, FREE, we have Muay Thai Kickboxing, BJJ, MMA, Wrestling, Womens ONLY classes and much more.  You can also go to www.lloydirvin.com

Everyone that’s a part of Team Lloyd Irvin, we all have something to bring to the table!  As for the males, we have Mike Easton and JT Torres who will be competing in Worlds for the first time as black belts.  We have DJ Jackson and Willie Leonard who both haves wrestling back ground and is putting their time in on the mats, trying to become a World Champions.  For No Gi Worlds, they closed out the open division and won both their weight classes as well.

Willie and I will be heading to Florida next weekend for the Abu Dhabi trials.  Master Lloyd and the other guys will be heading out to European Championships as well.  JT has Michael Langhi and Lucas Lepri in it.  It will be a division to watch!

We also get ready as Phil Davis prepares to make his MMA debut in the UFC 109 Relentless, on February 6th.  Also on the west coast we have Brandon Vera who will be fighting Jon Jones in the UFC on March 21st.

I’m sure there are other students at Team Lloyd Irvin who are going to step it up this coming year and really prepare for battle!  There are so many tournaments coming up with the Pan Ams, Worlds, Brasil Nationals, Europeans, that Team Lloyd Irvin are for sure going to let everyone know who we are this year!
