UFC ULTIMATE FIGHT NIGHT 24

On Saturday night, Master Lloyd was in Seattle, Washington to corner Phil Davis, in his headline bout against MMA Legend “Minotouro” Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Mr. Wonderful was more than ready for the challenge.

Phil was able to work almost every aspect of his mixed martial arts game. In the first round Minotouro was able to defend Davis’ takedown attempts. Phil stayed focused on the task at hand and continued to showcase the improvements in his striking.

The second round saw a slight adjustment in strategy that opened the flood gates for Phil’s attack. In the first round Phil Davis worked for double leg take downs, but in the second he switched to a single leg and exposed a hole in Lil Nog’s game.

When the fight hit the mats, Phil worked his ferocious ground and pound on the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt. Mr. Wonderful also demonstrated his tremendous pressure from top, not giving any space for his opponent to work. Davis continued his dominant performance into the final round, winning with a unanimous decision.

Wilson Reis was victorious in the quarterfinals of Bellator’s featherweight tournament, with a dominant performance over Team Quest’s Zac George.

45 seconds into the first round Wilson erupted on his opponent with a series of strikes. Reis remained relentless in his attack. As George defended, the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt closed the distance, and snatched up a single leg. Wilson wasted no time “running the pipe“, slamming his opponent’s back onto the canvas.

After stabilizing his position on top, Reis rained down punches and hammerfists, forcing Zac George to expose his back. In an instant Wilson sank his hooks in, and continued pressuring his adversary with strikes to the head.

Two minutes in, the Sao Paulo native lassoed his fore-arm around George’s neck, cinching in a super-tight rear naked choke variation, finishing the fight.

Wilson trains out of Philadelphia with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belts Jared Weiner of BJJ United and Brad Daddis, owner of Daddis Fight Camps. Wilson is also a full-time instructor in Philly and a truly great asset to Team Lloyd Irvin.

The 2011 Pan’s are within two weeks. A week after that a number of Medal Chasers are flying out to the Middle East for the Abu Dhabi World Pro. Fast Forward two weeks and we’ll be in Brazil for their National Tournament. All of these tournaments are building up to the Grand Finale at the World Championships in June.

Preparing for a string of tournaments such as the one outlined above is an extremely delicate process, where one wrong move can ruin an entire year’s worth of goals and aspirations.

For the Medal Chasers, ML created a “mastermind” group of experts to maximize the potential of each individual on the team. With the likes of Strength Coach D’angelo Kinard and ”the Recovery Doc” Rick Rosa, Master Lloyd is able to concentrate on technical improvement, mental strength, and game-planning.

In today’s morning class, Master Lloyd had everyone rolling live competition rounds, only A-game moves.

If you’ve ever competed, you know that it’s usually much different than sparring in class. In order to replicate a more competitive setting, ML calls two people out to square off. Usually he’ll order for a stare-down, increasing the intensity of the situation. When the bell sounds, the two go at it. While the battle ensues, everyone else is screaming and cheering to emulate how it will be when you step out to compete.

Master Lloyd is always stressing the significance of mental training, and this exercise definitely does the trick. You have to deal with the same nervousness and anxiety to perform as you would when you enter any big tournament.

When it comes to competition preparation remember the 12 P’s:

“Piss Poor Preparation Promotes Piss Poor Performance, Piss Poor Performance Promotes Pain“

If you want to do well in competition you need to prepare properly, period-point-blank. You need to be honest with yourself, and realistic with the goals you set. You need to leave no stone unturned, whether it be the technical, mental or physical side of your game. If you’re lacking in any one of the three, you’re performance will suffer and you will surely endure pain.

Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning there is one mission that the Camp Springs Medal Chasers need to accomplish:

BEAT DOWN JT TORRES!

JT has one thing on his mind. A GOLD medal in the Lightweight Black Belt division atthe Brazilian Jiu Jitsu World Championships.

It’s no easy task, and the only way to get on top of that podium in June is through HARD WORK!

In order to prepare JT Torres for the World’s, Master Lloyd Irvin put him in an intensive training regimen that pushes the 21 year old Black Belt to his physical and mental limits.

Today it started off with a warm-up and a light guard passing drill.

Once everyone loosened up, it was on.

This is how the Drill is set up:

JT starts from his back

His goal is to get his grips, lock down a position, advance with a sweep, or submit.

Master Lloyd sets up a passing crew made up of:

Black Belt and Beta Academy Instructor Nakapan Phungephorn

Head of the Team Lloyd Irvin Youth Program Master Donnie Achnick

Brown Belt Jimmy Harbison

Purple Belt Hammer, DJ Jackson

The passers have 30 seconds to blast JT, Non-Stop Movement, Constant Pressure.

After the 30 seconds is over, a fresh person jumps in for their half-minute.

If someone gets to side control, they have to get up in front of JT Torres and pass again.

Each Round consists of 3 full rotations through the passing crew. Master Lloyd puts us in the mindset that JT Torres is a hostile enemy. With this in place it gets pretty violent.

JT Torres went through 3 Rounds of smashing, passing, and bad intentions, with a 2:30 minute break in between.

After the last person was finished, the Spiderman had to roll live for another five minutes.

While this was going on, the rest of the class did live 8 minute A-game competition rounds.

When it was all said and done, Master Lloyd pointed out some of the mistakes made during the class and had a few of the soldiers explain what happened in their rolls.

That was just the beginning, there is still a 4:30 Drilling session and another 8:30 practice.

SEE YOU ON THE MATS!

Saturday is always a SUPER busy day in Camp Springs, Maryland at Lloyd Irvin’s Mixed Martial Arts Academy.

The day kicks off DARK and early, as the Professional Competition Team meets up before 6 AM to prepare for the Strength and Conditioning session with Coach D’Angelo Kinard. Hanging from the ceiling, you’ll see a sign stating:

“If you’re early, your on time. If you’re on time, your late!”

When the clock strikes six, the class begins and if you’re not on the floor ready to work, you’re out of luck.

The Camp Springs Crew starts off running laps around the main grappling mat, warming up the body.

From there we blast right into the workout, which incorporates an array of fully body exercises including push-ups, mountain climbers, “Speed Skaters”, shadow boxing, pummeling with a partner….the list goes on.

D’Angelo is a true master of motivation, with a unprecedented style of strength and conditioning that’s completely unique.

He makes the work out unpredictable, which keeps an individual’s body guessing. This also simulates a combat situation where you never really know what will happen next.

After an hour of intensive, HARD WORK, D’Angelo wraps it up with a team stretch.

The Judo class is scheduled for 11 AM, so most of the Medal Chasers take the 4 -hour break to rest up or eat.

The Lloyd Irvin Judo Program is taught by Suldbayar Damdin, a 2004 Olympian hailing from Mongolia.

If you’re looking for MMA in Maryland, look no further. Lloyd Irvin’s Mixed Martial Arts is with out a doubt the best Academy for MMA in Maryland.

MMA stands for Mixed Martial Arts. This usually refers to taking the most effective martial arts such as Muay Thai, Boxing, Wrestling, Judo, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and merging them to have a complete understanding of a combat engagement no matter where the fight takes you. the striking arts of Muay Thai and Boxing train you to deliver devastating kick knees punches and elbows. Training Judo and Wrestling to dominate and control whether the fight stays on the feet or goes to the ground, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu the “magic” art form which will allow you to defeat adversary’s that may be bigger, stronger or faster, by using leverage and technique to apply chokes and joint locks to end a fight quickly and efficiently. In an art form where knowledge is key, it’s crucial that you have a qualified instructor who has put in the time on the mats to achieve a comprehensive understanding of the science behind the sport. Master Lloyd Irvin’s has been broken down the most effective techniques and formulated systems to increase learning and effectiveness. These techniques have been tested in battle! Just ask any one of Lloyd Irvin’s roster of mma stars. UFC fighters Phil Davis, Brandon Vera or UFC Bantam weight champion Dominick Cruz. You just cant argue with those results. Master Lloyd Irvin dominates MMA in Maryland!
