Two members from the White Belt Competition Team
win big!

Team Lloyd Irvin sent a few representatives to this
event in attempts to qualify for ADCC Nationals. The
winners of this event get an automatic spot in ADCC
Nationals and the winner of Nationals get a spot in
the BIG SHOW ADCC.

Willie Leonard continues to shine winning his division
and the Absolute division, DJ wins the finals in dominating
fashion, Lenny brings home the silver medal and Sijara continues to show improvement as a new blue belt defeating a local purple belt instructor, but she still is gaining experience.

Sijara is a very new blue belt who was very dominate at
the white belt level and now is a brand new blue belt
trying to gain experience.

She lost her first match in her division by RNC.

Not happy with her poor performance, she entered
the open division where she faced
Jen Flannery, a highly skilled purple belt who has
placed twice in the blue belt Worlds, won the
pan ams and is the head female bjj instructor at a
local school in our area.

During the match Sijara over extends her arm and Jen
quickly slaps on a armbar, since this is the adcc
advanced division their rules state that you can slam
out of submissions, during Jens armbar attempt she
doesn’t hook the leg to defend a slam and sijara picks
her up and slams her to escape.

There is a moment break as some people are unfamiliar
with the rules and think that sijara should be
disqualified so there is a debate going on, but in the
end, the match had to continue because slamming was allowed.

The match continues, sijara takes her down, Jen attempts to
go to the 50/50 position and Sijara smashes through for the
pass, works to take Jen’s back and as sijara is working to
sink the rear naked choke in the time expires.

Sijara wins, in her next match Sijara wins by armlock, then
in the finals she made a crucial mistake
leaving her neck exposed and gets caught in a choke.

DJ made a special request for the adcc, he asked if
he could go down in a weight division to get a chance
to compete against another local grappler making a
name for himself named Anthony Cincotta . At the recent Copa
Nova Anthony defeated two of DJ’s teammates, and DJ
thought that he would get a chance to compete against
Anthony in the open division but Anthony ended up not
doing the open division.

Both DJ and Anthony have been on a tear winning their
weight division and winning or doing very well in the
open divisions.

DJ’s request was granted and somehow the way the
brackets got created DJ and Anthony ended up on
opposite sides of the bracket. They would both
have to make it to the finals for Dj to get his
wish.

As Anthony steamrolled through his opponents on his
side of the bracket, this is what was happening on DJ’s
side of the bracket.

First match

Dj Jackson’s first match started off with him hand fighting and pummeling with his opponent attempting to get the upper hand with positioning. After the first minute DJ lowers his level and takes his opponent down with a double leg take down. Immediately after taking his opponent down he begins attempting to pass. After a repeated knee cut across attempts and other pass attempts he settled in half guard and began attacking the Kimura. Once securing the Kimura grip he uses it to pass to side control and then finishes his opponent with the Kimura.

Second match, Dj faced David Bass who is a KILLER on the mat!

Dj Jackson’s second match started off with him and his opponent circling and fighting for position. His opponent jumps closed guard and Dj immediately begins to open the guard.

Dj keeps his posture and hand fights with his opponent as he attempts to open the guard and get a knee inside. In the midst of his attempts he gets caught in an omaplata. He begins pressuring into his opponent making it difficult for him to finish the submission. After fighting the submission off he returns to his opponents guard and continues to open.

Once he opens the guard he began to knee cut across and hip switch trying to get the guard pass secured with short time remaining on the clock. When the time ends DJ’s hand is raised in victory.

(one of the local instructors said Dave’s loss to DJ was ‘sketchy’ at best, but in the final match DJ made sure that there wasn’t anything sketchy about his win)

THE FINALS DJ vs Anthony Cincotta

Dj Jackson third match started off very fast paced. Dj and Anthony fought very hard to gain position until Anthony shot a sweep single and began to raise Dj’s leg up. Dj immediately began to kick his leg back to the mat and sprawl away. Once his leg was too high to sprawl he kicked away and re-shot on Anthony. Dj peaked out and came up behind Anthony. Immediately after coming up behind him,Dj takes Anthony’s back and sinks in a rear naked choke to finish his opponent in the finals.

Here Anthony congratulates DJ on his victory

and DJ with the medal

As always, DJ jumps into the Open Division

DJ’s forth match of the tournament and first match of the open division was very exciting. He and his opponent fought hard for takedowns. His opponent took him down early and DJ secured guard and began working for submissions.

After not being able to secure a submission he got up to his feet and began fighting for takedowns again. He fought long and hard battling back and forth with his opponent until he finally took his opponent down with a double leg takedown. He passed immediately hip switching to side control. Once he secured his points he popped to knee on belly and his opponent trapped him back in half guard. From half guard he rolls to a knee bar submitting his opponent at the buzzer.

Dj Jackson?s second match of the open division began with him and his opponent fighting for takedowns. His opponent took him down and DJ began to work for a sweep from his butterfly guard.

Once his opponent began to pass he turtled away to prevent his opponent from scoring. His opponent was able to get one hook in through the transition and secured the position with an over under grip. Dj continued to fight and try to recompose guard.

He fought off the other hook and rear naked chokes for the majority of the match before his opponent was able to get the last hook in. Once both hooks were in DJ began to fight them out and try to get his back to the mat, but with short time the match ended with DJ losing

Willie Leonard Continues To Shine, as a
new blue belt Willie has won almost every
tournament that he has entered including
becoming a BJJ World CHampion at the Blue
Belt level and getting the Silver in the
Open Division at the worlds.

Willie continued his winning ways at this
event also. The scary thing is that Willie
is just getting started.

First match
Willie Leonard walks onto the mat and shakes his opponent’s hand. The two trade off a couple of takedown attempts with no success. Willie then goes for a foot sweep and his opponent falls to his butt but regains his base before Willie can capitalize. Back on their feet Willie then hits a side by and takes his opponent down.

The match is still in the first half so no points are awarded. Willie quickly gains the full mount position. Willie bases out and holds his opponent down for a couple minutes while working for submissions. He pins his opponents arm to the mat and comes off to side control and locks in a paint brush. He starts to crank it.

It looks like it is almost over; he continues to crank the paint brush but his opponent is not tapping. Willie pulls it another couple inches and a pop echoes off of the mat and his opponent screams tap. He lays there for a couple minutes then stands up and can move his arm around.

Finals Match
Willie steps onto the mat against his much more experienced opponent. They hand fight for a while pushing back and forth against each other. No one is really committing to a take down attempt. Willie continues to hand fight and keeps on pulling the head down of his opponent.

He is clearly tiring him out. The past the half way point with no takedowns. The hand fighting continues. The clock hits 15 minutes with still no points. Willie hits a little flury to try to get a take down his opponent fights it off. As the clock hits 30 seconds left Willie gets an arm drag and takes his opponent down for 2. Willie lands in half guard and is working to pass. His opponent will not let his leg out.

As the clock hits 15 seconds Willie gets in his half guard lock down position and starts to apply pressure. As the clock ticks down you hear his opponent moan in discomfort. As the clock hits 2 seconds his opponent taps from pressure. Willie has won the ADCC regional.

Absolute division

First match

Willie and his first opponent meet in the middle of the mat. They hand fight back and forth for a bit until will trips him to his back and passes to side control.

He is working to isolate an arm but just can’t get it out. Mike Fowler is sitting in his corner coaching him on how to get it out. He finally isolates the arm as they pass the half way point. He moves to get his grip for an arm lock and his arm slips back in tight to his chest. Willie then slides up to mount to take the lead in the match. He keeps fighting to get control of his arm.

But his opponent is not budging. He tries to buck Willie off of mount but allows Willie to take his back for enough time to get the points before his slides back to his back with Willie now in half guard. Time expires with Willie in half guard and ahead on the scoreboard.

Second Match
The two opponents shake hands and the match is underway. This match is between the heavyweight champion and the super heavyweight champion, both Division 1 wrestlers.

Willie’s opponent shoots for a low single and Willie steps over and locks in a triangle. The triangle is completely locked in but the angle is all wrong to get the submission. Willie fights to get the problem fixed. He finally breaks his opponent down to his hip and quickly gets the tap.

Finals Match
Willie and his final opponent square off and Willie quickly gets a slide by and snags his opponents ankle for the takedown. As soon as his opponent hits the ground Willie passes to side control. He isolates an arm and applies a paint brush for the tap. Willie wins the Absolute division.

Lenny Maggio wins the SILVER!

In his first match, he countered his opponents single leg attempt with a flying triangle. His opponent defended the triangle well, so Lenny transitioned into an armbar for the finish.

Lenny gets the win

In his second match, Lenny’s opponent pulled guard and after a few minutes of work, he passed the guard, took his opponents back and finished with the RNC

In the finals Lenny lost to interior heel hook.

Congrats to everyone that stepped onto the mats!
