Recently, several Black Belts from Team Lloyd Irvin traveled hours to Lisbon, Portugal to compete in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu European Championships.  Jim Harbison, one of Team Lloyd Irvin’s newest members placed 3rd!  Mike Fowler and JT “Spider Man” Torres both won their first matches and lost in the 2nd round.

For those of you who follow Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, you all know who Michael Langhi is.  He is BJJ Black Belt under multiple time World Champion, Cobrinha.  He started BJJ in 2001, at the age of 19 winning his first Mundial’s as a Blue Belt.  In 2006, he won as a purple, 2007, as brown belt, and in 2009, he took the victory of Gilbert Durinho Burns, winning as a Black Belt.  In 2009, every tournament that Langhi entered, he won!

With that being said, JT “Spider Man” Torres was set to fight Michael Langhi in the 2nd round of the Europeans.  They had a great match, JT lost by advantage.  I spoke with JT and he said it was a great experience, and now he knows what he needs to work on for the biggest tournament of all, Worlds.  That match really gave him a boost of confidence and he is excited for the Worlds.  He know he will face him again, and the results will be different.  With only 5 months left until the World Championships, that was a warm up round for JT, he is training harder than ever.

Pan Ams is coming up in the beginning of April, JT and Jimmy will be here training with us for the whole month of March!  There will be some good training, and great videos up as well.  Check out the video below, this is JT hanging at my house.  We just got done training, and he decides to give a speech about penguins!  I am sure I will be hearing a lot more penguin talk when he gets here in a few weeks!  Jiu-Jitsu NERDS!

Tomorrow we will be heading up to Crazy 88 to get some jiu-jitsu in! It’s going to be a good time!  If you are going to be near Crazy 88 up in Elkridge, stop by and get some great training!
