Airport security had to work overtime for Team Lloyd Irvin’s return flights from California, as FamLI collected enough hardware to drive the screeners batty.
Future UFC lightweight superstar DJ “Ram Man” (the erstwhile “Juggernaut”) Jackson, who turned 22 last week, celebrated by taking double gold, winning first place as a purple belt in both his division and the absolute, with the Ram Man submitting all his opponents in the latter.
The TLI women were awarded the third place overall female team title, with Rachel Demara taking gold in both her division and the absolute.
Big Willie Leonard became purple belt No Gi world champion in his division, winning the gold in a match Master Lloyd described as a barn burner.
JT “SpiderMan” Torres’s quest to become black belt No Gi world champion eluded him as he lost a referee’s decision described as questionable by both Team Lloyd Irvin and independent onlookers. JT will be back (no pun intended).
Andris Brunovskis took silver in his purple belt division.
I have the privilege of training with these competitors day in and day out, and I know nobody trains harder than this team.
