I am back on the east coast, watching the bjj class.  The tournament was a great turnout and Team Lloyd Irvin represented at the Grapplers Quest.
In my first match, I got caught in a heel hook in the no gi division. Even though I lost my match, I kept a positive attitude and prepared for the gi. After my first match in the gi, my nerves went away. I won that match by points. Then, I finished my second opponent with a loop choke. That was actually the first time I have competed in the gi in over a year! I won the division and took home the gold. It was a great learning experience! Now I know what I need to work on and I just need to keep training and drilling. All of these tournaments are helping me prepare for the biggest tournament of all, Worlds. It’s only 7 months away. The team will be training hard, and I look forward to seeing everyone on the mats.
Do you have any competitions coming up? MMA fights? If so, what are you doing to prepare for them?
With the good comes the bad…Today I am really feeling the pain in my lower back. I am sure the long plane ride from yesterday didn’t help. I am taking today off; I am trying to listen to my body! Like I said before, you need to let your body heal. But don’t take too much time off. Training during the holidays can be rough. People are traveling, in and out of the gym, Christmas parties with good food! All of that great stuff!  So, make sure that you keep up the training to keep that weight off! They say that the average person gains 10lbs. during the holidays! So, keep training!! You can never get enough!
