How much time do you dedicate to drilling brazilian jiu jitsu techniques? Have you done 100 reps? 1000? 10,000 of a particular move? Whether it be a specific move for your game plan, a throw, or simply improving your grips.
I was sitting at lunch today with ML. We started talking about jiu jitsu. Then that led to a discussion about the morning BJJ class. He was saying that there are still students who don’t know the basics of grip breaking. Not only that, but the understanding of many different moves…and that’s really just based upon DRILLING! You must drill the technique over and over! This goes for MMA, BJJ, wrestling, etc. At your mixed martial arts academy, are you working on your grips to be like our Lloyd Irvin black belt Jonathan Torres? His grips are as famous as he is!
Here at Lloyd Irvin’s Mixed Martial Arts, we have separate classes that are dedicated to gripping and guard passing, leglocks, and sweeps. Its fantastic! Even if your school doesn’t have classes dedicated to training these specific techniques, you should always take the time to drill separate aspects of your game. It will improve your overall understanding of brazilian jiu jitsu.
So until you have drilled ONE move, 10,000 times, you cant really know the finer details and get the true understanding! So….
LET’S GO DRILL!!!
