Lloyd Irvin Mixed Martial Arts Academy
Today we had another great morning session in Camp Springs, MD. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt Dustin “Clean” Denes is here at the Lloyd Irvin Headquarters and he was in charge of the 10 AM no-gi submission wrestling class. The class was mixed with beginners, wrestlers, MMA fighters, and advanced Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioners, so Clean had his hands full. He split us up into whichever category we belonged and began working on techniques. Team Lloyd Irvin purple belt Andris Brunovskis and I drilled a triangle set-up from butterfly guard. Professional mixed martial artists J.C. Cuffee and Frank “The Crank” Camacho along with the novice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu students were working a guillotine series from the top. We continued to drill the positions until it was time for our workout.
The Team Lloyd Irvin strength and conditioning coach is none other than D’Angelo Kinard, owner of Advanced Sports Performance. D’Angelo is at our Camp Springs, MD location 3 times a week pushing all the competitors to their physical limits. If you want to get in shape Advanced Sports Performance is the way to go. Most of the team is getting ready for the Grapplers Quest in Boston; so today the workout was an all around cardio booster. Without the use of any weights or devices the crew threw down hard for an hour straight employing squats, crunches, push-ups, lunges, and a various assortment of pulse pounding exercises.
The conditioning class isn’t limited just to fighters and competitors. Alyshia Branson, leader and drill sergeant of Lloyd Irvin’s Super Woman Fitness Boot Camp, gives it her all every workout. Now it’s time to rest up a little bit before the rest of the training sessions today consisting of wrestling at 5:30, a 6:30 teen Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class, and finally the Combat Gold Club program at 8:30.
