Mike “The Hulk” Easton makes his long-awaited return to the cage in a little more than a week, on May 22, at the GMU Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia. Easton defends his UWC bantamweight championship against Ryan “The Lion” Diaz in the night’s main event. I had a chance to catch up with Mike earlier today for the following interview:
What do you know about your May 22 opponent, Ryan Diaz?
I don’t know much about him but I know he’s going to lose to Mike Easton. And he’s a very experienced fighter who’s fought great guys. And he likes to bang!
How’s fight camp been?
Incredible. Awesome. It feels good. My standup is unbelievable. Jiu Jitsu is on point, I’m ready to do the thing if it hits the ground.
In your controversial fight last October against Chase Beebe he used wrestling to maintain positional advantage over you for a good portion of the fight. Has your wrestling game changed since then?
Yes, my wrestling has improved dramatically so far as takedowns as well as takedown defense is concerned. Coach Jim Kelly and teammate J.C. Cuffee have worked with me extensively on my wrestling. I’ve also been wrestling live with Justin Hickey and D.J. Jackson and my game has evolved 100% since October. Chase Beebe is welcome to a rematch any time he wants to sign on the dotted line.
It’s been eight long months since the Beebe fight. How are you feeling in general?
I’m itching to get back in the cage. I can’t wait. I’ve made some changes in my life. Mike Easton has learned some things about Mike Easton. I’ve been learning about me and becoming the best man and a great role model to Champ and Lazha, my two kids.
What’s your prediction for the fight?
Total destruction, Hulk style. Pain. Mike “The Hulk” Easton winning, no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
